This page lists the cookies and on-device storage FactMap uses, what each one is for, and how to change your mind. Analytics runs to measure traffic and improve the game; your choice governs cookies used for advertising.

Your choice
When you first visit, we ask whether we may use cookies for advertising. Analytics runs to help us measure traffic and improve the game. You can change your choice at any time:
Essential storage (always on)
These are needed for the game to work, so they are always active. They live in your browser's local storage, are never sent to anyone, and set no tracking cookies:
- a random, anonymous player identifier, so your stats are your own;
- your game progress, scores, and streaks;
- which puzzles you have already seen;
- your cookie choice, so we do not ask again every visit;
- your map view choice (flat map or globe);
- one-time flags, such as whether you have seen the intro.
Sign-in cookies (only if you sign in)
Creating an account is optional. If you sign in with Google or Apple, our authentication provider Supabase sets first-party cookies whose names start with sb-. They keep you signed in and let our server know which account is making a request. They are strictly necessary for the account you asked for, are not used for advertising, and are removed when you sign out.
Analytics
Plausible (always on, no cookies). We use Plausible to count visits and understand broad usage. It sets no cookies, stores no personal data, and does not track you across sites, so it runs for everyone.
Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to measure how the game is used. It sets the following cookies to tell visits and sessions apart:
- _ga: distinguishes one visitor from another. Lasts up to about two years.
- _ga_<id>: keeps session state for Google Analytics 4. Lasts up to about two years.
These are set by Google as our analytics provider, so we can understand and improve the game. If you would rather we did not, you can object by contacting us, or block cookies in your browser as described below.
Advertising
FactMap does not currently show third-party advertising, so no advertising cookies are set yet. If we add advertising, those cookies are used only if you accept above; reject and they stay off. We will update this page before any advertising cookies are used.
Managing cookies in your browser
Besides Cookie settings above, you can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, and clear the on-device storage the game uses. Doing so will reset your scores and streaks, since those are stored on your device.
